Artist’s statement
Between the cold mountains of Kenscoff, the warm beaches of Les Cayes and an Italian restaurant in the middle of Petion-ville, I grew up between Hellos and Goodbyes, chasing nostalgia, longing for something that never was , some place I have yet to go, someone I have yet to meet. The colors, the sounds, the smell, the taste, the bruises that would with time become memories and reminders that the little things take up the most space. Creating and appreciating art has been and will remain a conduit and a tribute to these nuances.
My approach to painting is process driven and experimental. They are birthed through a series of sketches that are repeated until satisfaction is reached. That sketch is then transferred onto a canvas where it gradually evolved into a painting. Through rich layers of paint are created textures that are only fully appreciated when meet with fingertips, resulting in colors alter mood and shift the aura of spaces. The concept revolves around the intersection of abstract and realism, leaving room for exploration, showcasing the complexity of a woman ; multi-color and multi-dimensional. The missing head is a symbolism of creative elegance, which is an unconventional wisdom that value the incompletion of things, for it leaves room for development and variation, a concept that reminds one of the unreachable nature of perfection.
